The Starter Kit for Makeup Beginners.
A Makeup kit essentials blog post is one I have wanted to do for a long time. I feel that it is not necessary to have a tone of makeup in your kit. It is all about quality items that you can use daily to create a great makeup look.
My list consists of affordable products as well as high priced items. I believe that there are things you can skimp on when it comes to your makeup, but two things you cannot skimp on is a good foundation and a good lipstick.
So, if you are wanting to get into makeup, here is a list of products you need in your kit to pull off any makeup look. This is an ideal list for those just getting into makeup.
It goes without saying that a good makeup look begins with good skincare. To read more about my skincare routine, click the link here.
Once your skin has been taken care of, you begin your makeup look with foundation. Here, I highly recommend a pricier foundation because you want to get your money’s worth. Yes, I have one drugstore foundation that I love, but I will always go back to my Estee Lauder foundation because it has a better finish, and it wears longer.
- Setting Spray
These three items sum up the coverage portion of a makeup look. Concealer is good for hiding dark circles under the eye and any blemishes. After applying foundation and concealer, go in with a good setting spray to hold it all together. You can also add a setting powder if you are prone to oily skin or you are into a matte finish.
Here is where you get creative! Time to play with eyeshadow. I really think that a girl needs one good eye shadow palette in their makeup kit. One palette is enough. If you are into cool tones then grab a palette with greys, blues etc. If you are into more warm tones, get a palette with browns, yellows and oranges.
- Eye Shadow
- Brow Pomade
A good way to finish off any eyeshadow look is to apply mascara and fill in your eyebrows. PS: never skimp on brow care. Be sure to wax them, thread or tweeze them regularly to get the best results.
HIGHLIGHT AND CONTOUR
It is always good to warm up the face after applying your foundation. I suggest having a bronzer in your kit along with a bit of highlighter. You can add a bit of shimmer highlighter to the areas on your face that have a natural highlight.
- Contour Stick
- Shimmer Highlighter Stick
If you are not into crazy contouring then applying a bronzer to your cheekbones and under your chin is a good way to get the subtle effect of contouring.
Now for the finishing touches – a good lipstick. With lipstick is all about preference. I have a mix of matte lipsticks and liquid lipsticks. It is a great idea to have a mix of colours as well. I usually have about two bold colours and two more subtle ones. Having those options will have you covered for any occasion – be it a day time look or a night time look.
I hope this post has been helpful. I know going into a cosmetics store can be somewhat daunting, but this list should give you some guidance as to what you need in your makeup kit.
